Uniform Contract & Student Supplies

There are quite a few supplies that our culinary students need to be successful, some of which are provided by the program, some of which are the student’s responsibility.

Please read the uniform contract below for specific details:

REQUIRED SUPPLIES

While Culinary 1 & 2 students just need shoes that cover their toes, the rest of our students need a few more things to work in our kitchen:

  1. Chef Coat (provided by the program)
  2. Nonslip cooking shoes
  3. Thermometer
  4. Sharpie
  5. Checkered pants (for catering and competition)

Many of the items can be purchased directly through the school using SchoolPay. Orders will be placed on September 5th and dispersed after delivery.

Chef Pants for Competition or Catering

All Culinary Arts students must wear the “Essential Baggy Chef Pant” by ChefWorks during catering events and while at regional and national competitions.

NOTE: Culinary 1 students DO need to order chef pants if they intend to participate in cooking competitions or to help with catering events.

Thermometer

All 3 and 4 Culinary students are required to come to class with a probe thermometer with the ability to register temperatures from 0 – 220 degrees Fahrenheit. You can easily pick up a discount bimetallic stemmed thermometer (like the one pictured here) at Walmart for approximately $10. In addition, we have a limited number that we will sell your student for $10, cash only.

Serious culinary students are encouraged to purchase a digital probe thermometer which is slightly more expensive but infinitely more accurate, easier to use, and much more helpful. Here’s the thermometer I use:

It is recommended that students mark all personal tools with their last name to avoid loss or confusion.

Sharpie

All Culinary 2, 3, and 4 students are required to have a black sharpie with them on dress-out and cooking days as part of their uniform. It is the student’s responsibility to purchase extras as necessary.

It is recommended that all students purchase a few spares to keep in their locker. We provide sharpies for $2 – cash only.

Cooking Shoes

Culinary 2, 3, and 5 Students are required to wear grease-resistant, non-slip cooking shoes during class, catering events, and competitions. Wekiva Culinary recommends Crocs Men’s and Women’s Bistro Clogs which can be purchased directly at many vendors including Amazon.com at . A low-cost alternative is available from Walmart, the Treadsafe Pepper Clog.

CHEF COATS

Magnet Academy of Culinary Arts Competition Coat

Culinary 3 and 4 students – as well as everyone on the competition team – are issued a numbered chef coat at the beginning of the year that is theirs to keep and which they will use for the duration of their time in the program. Students return their coats at the end of the year for maintenance and are reissued the same coat when they return to the program. Dry Cleaning, stain removal, and sanitizing is included in the Program Supply Fee.

Keeping the chef coat clean DURING THE YEAR and available for dress-out and cooking days is the responsibility of the student. Care and further instructions are available on the Chef Coat Contract.

Serious culinary students may opt to purchase an additional coat to make sure they have one ready to wear at all times. If a student loses, damages, defaces, or misses more than TWO (2) labs because they have misplaced their issued chef coat, another will be ordered for them and their school account will be charged $55.

NOTE: Culinary 1 & 2 students are NOT issued a chef coat their first year.
